"Elizabeth Zimmermann is commonly considered the grandmother of contemporary knitting.  A designer, writer, teacher and knitting television star active between 1950 and 1989, Elizabeth revolutionized the practice of knitting with her critical attention to technique and materials, and by her invitation to other knitters to speak for themselves in their creative practices. Knitters so often feel like family-- come learn a little of our family story of how an individual developing her own creativity helped generate the rich and diverse contemporary community of American knitting."
